Why do sellers ignore messages when you ask if you’re willing to sell ITEM for X amount?

Last year I came across an item that I wanted to purchase, however with the seller is asking for I think is a little too high, so I decided to send the seller a message asking if they would be willing to sell the item that I want to purchase for Five dollars off they’re asking price. A few hours, days, weeks, months and a year has gone by which by then I basically forgot that I even had messaged them.

Jump forward to a year later a year later I search on eBay for the item I am looking for and I come across a listing not realizing I’ve already been here a year ago. I added it to my watchlist, and a few days go by and I do not receive a special offer which is usually what you’ll receive if sometimes you are watching an item. So a few days later, I decide to go to message the seller and ask if they are willing to if they would be willing to sell the item that I want to purchase for five dollars off they’re asking price but before I submit a message, I see that I already sent them a message last year and they have not responded, so I do not send them a message as much as I want too.
